Looking for ways to supplement your income while you work the clubs? This workshop was created for you! So take a step towards increasing your earning power…

Breaking Into Corporate Comedy

When: Sunday, July 29 at 12-4pm

Where: Laughing Devil Comedy Club, Long Island City, NY

In this workshop, students will learn:

  • How to book a corporate gig
  • What kind of material you need for the client and audience
  • How to create a niche and branding
  • How to create awesome marketing and lists

and much more.

“It’s tough to make a living relying on what you earn in comedy clubs,” says Ciricillo. ” Even if you’re a national touring headliner you can’t rely solely on club money. Comics will also supplement their income by working another job that is not related to standup. I thought about this years ago while I was on the road, and decided that if I could break into the world of corporate comedy, I could make more money, improve my act and still stay in the biz.”

“The biggest benefit from corporate work is the money, but don’t forget that they also pay expenses! You can do a [corporate] gig in San Francisco then go hang out at the Punchline – pretty sweet! I have done this for 20 years and still am successfully working strong. You will hear all about how I made it and continue to make unbelievable deals because I know the corporate mindset.

“My whole goal was to take more control of my stand-up career and not end up broke. You can do this with a little help and I can show you how. If you have ever thought “How do I get corporate gigs?” this seminar is for you. See you soon!”

Carmen CiricilloAbout the Instructor: Nationally touring headliner Carmen Ciricillo has performed over 5,000 corporate events and featured on comedy tours paid and sponsored by Volvo, Toyota and US Homes. He served as NASCAR Hospitality Comedian and KIA spokesman. Best known as The Construction Comic, he has created a humorous routine about life as a contractor that everyone can understand. In 2003, he received rave reviews after performing with Richard Lewis at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts for the Gilda Radner charity, Gilda’s Club. His act plays well for all groups because anyone can relate to it, but his core groups are those affiliated with the construction industry.

In 1986, Mr. Ciricillo won a comedy competition at The Cleveland Comedy Club and started to receive bookings at clubs nationally. In 1989, he quickly caught Hollywood fever and moved there in 1990, where almost immediately he was cast on the television game show Hold Everything with Pat Bullard. He also became a regular at the Santa Monica Improv. After being encouraged by Mark Lonow, one of the clubs’ owners, he wrote a unique routine on his family’s construction business that propelled his career to a new level.

In 1991, after an appearance at the Laugh Factory near Chicago, Carmen Ciricillo was asked to perform for the Northern Illinois Home Builder’s Association. That’s when the word spread about The Construction Comic®. He has been speaking to some of the largest construction associations and companies in the U.S. and Canada including: The National Association of Home Builders, The National Association of the Remodeling Industry, Associated Builders and Contractors, Associated General Contractors, The American Subcontractors Association, The Plumbing Heating Cooling Contractors, and The Painting and Decorating Contractors Association. He has performed for thousands of construction-related groups doing everything from standup, emcee work, keynote, motivational and more.

Since 1997, Ciricillo has taught continuing education for Florida Licensed Contractors and has done so with humor, motivation and sincerity. He truly believes in keeping an audience informed and entertained at the same time. Topics like safety, worker’s comp, ethics etc., can be taught in an interesting and creative manner. It is up to the instructor, and in fact the duty of the instructor to ensure that his audience is inspired, entertained and educated.

In 1999, Ciricillo appeared on The Discovery Channel’s Your New House television show and by 2000 he was a regular. He portrayed the humorous tool man and went on to travel with NASCAR that season with the show’s main sponsor.

Ciricillo might be known as The Construction Comic®, but he takes his job as an instructor seriously. He is constantly attending continuing education to improve his knowledge as an instructor. In 2002, he became an OSHA authorized trainer.

In July 2005, the pilot for a sitcom based on his Construction Comedy routine was shot. Bill Grundfest, a writer and producer on the NBC sitcom Mad About You wrote the pilot.
