Comics Seek Alternative Venues to Comedy Clubs

Paul F. TompkinsWhile most comics choose the traditional route of working the comedy club circuit, others prefer performing at alternative venues such as comedian-writer Paul F. Tompkins, who will headline Saturday, June 21 at the Triple Rock Social Club, a punk-rock club in Minneapolis.

“I’ve been doing comedy since 1986 and I’m just not happy performing in comedy clubs anymore,” Tompkins tells StarTribune.com.  “At a comedy club, I feel like I am in competition with all the selling that is going on. I feel like I am a sort of chicken wing delivery system and that’s it.”
