Just days after George Carlin’s death as comedians, fans and national media pay tribute to the legend who changed the comedy landscape with 14 HBO specials including the ground-breaking Seven Words You Can Never Say on Television, some comedy clubs practice censorship, advising comics as to what they can say onstage. While visiting an upscale NYC comedy club whose walls are adorned with portraits of comedy stars, including Carlin, a club manager was overheard telling a female comic five minutes before a show to “tone down the f*cks.” “It’s a comedy club,” she says. “Do they say the same thing to the guys? I don’t think so.”
