New contributing writer shares her love for comedy and the comedians who tickle her funny bone these days.
When did you fall in love with stand-up comedy?
I remember seeing Sam Kinison when I was way too young to be seeing Sam Kinison, and my younger brother and I would try and yell jokes to each other like he did. As you can imagine, my parents just loved that. I think what really got me into comedy overall was Saturday Night Live. I used to sneak out of my room and crawl under the table next to the couch and secretly watch it while my mom was watching it.
What do you enjoy most about interviewing comedians?
The drinking. What? No, seriously I love hearing about their influences and their background. Comedians are a pretty unique bunch.
Name someone or something that made you laugh recently.
In preparing for my most recent interview with comedian Zack Kahn, I was laughing my face off at his movie reviews on his website, http://www.kahn-artist.com.
Who are some of the comedians local and national that you enjoy watching?
Louis C.K., Doug Stanhope, Sam Kinison (RIP, I watch him on YouTube), Zack Kahn, Doug Fager, Dave Chappelle, Zack Galifianakis and Rick Shapiro.
What’s next for you?
I am working on a tailgating story for College News and as always, half-assedly pushing for some sales for my comedic graphic novel Qorviq the Nondenominational Winter Solstice Celebration Seal. I am working on the piles of paperwork it takes to get it into Barnes & Noble Stores in time for the holidays. Contact me laurenalexiswood@gmail.com if you want a copy beforehand!
