Producer/personal manager Bob Wachs and Comic Strip Live co-owner Richie Tienken are seeking the next generation of comedy superstars. Wachs, who recently returned to the Comic Strip Live after a 20-year sabbatical, is working to fulfill his vision of creating, discovering, developing one and two-person comedy theatre shows that can be staged at the club.
“We’re returning to the early mentality at the Comic Strip Live where we actively perused, sought out, and developed the best rising stars of comedy. We’re now adding the policy of building and branding comedy theatre based shows to go with the fresh talent. No one in the world is doing that,” said Wachs. “It is hoped that the comedy theatre will also contain moving dramatic elements.”
Wachs co-managed Eddie Murphy and produced eight of his films, including co-writing the story for the 1987 hit Beverly Hills Cop II. He also managed Arsenio Hall and Eddie Griffin. Tienken is a behind-the-scenes comedy legend. Having co-managed Eddie Murphy with Wachs, Tienken helped build the Comic Strip Live from the ground up, and had a keen eye for spotting future comedy stars such as Jerry Seinfeld, Chris Rock, and Dave Chappelle.
