Comedian Lisa Lampanelli discusses the state of stand-up comedy (selling out shows) and why there aren’t many funny women comics with Forbes blogger Dorothy Pomerantz.
On selling out shows:
“My feeling is you have to work harder at selling tickets these days but you can still sell them. Now people are going to see maybe one show per year. I have to go on Howard Stern three times instead of one to sell out the Beacon Theater [in New York City]. I have to go on The Tonight Show and George Lopez to sell tickets. It can be done but it’s a lot more work.”
On funny women in stand-up:
“There’s not that many funny women comics. They end to be lazy and either get by on looks or a cute voice. They tell stories without enough jokes. With me every eight seconds or less there needs to be a punch line. There are a couple of women comics who are awesome but for the most part they’re not funny.”
