Comedian Doug Benson apologized on CTV last week for mocking the Canadian military on FOX News’ Red Eye with Greg Gutfeld. The Super High Me star was scheduled to perform at The Comic Strip in Edmonton April 2-5, but the owner canceled Benson’s shows after the club received threatening phone calls and emails due to the comedian’s offensive comments. Comic Observations: Doug Benson was right in that as a comedian and guest on Red Eye (a news parody show), he was there to be funny and entertaining. However, Benson’s snafu serves a cautionary tale that to mock another country’s military troops (just imagine the media fallout and boycott if a comedian made fun of American troops in Iraq) could cost you in paid gigs, especially if you will be performing in that country in the near future.
